closure poem
still
rubbing
open sores—
they should have
healed by now…
urine soaked
bandages
try to give
me
your presence again.
this
negative reminder
still a testament
to the hook
you left in
my heart.
desperate to cut
a diamond tether
instead of
just unhooking
and swimming away..
..it’s been
time to let go, rose

There are a lot of really powerful juxtapositions of words and ideas in this poem that I really love. "Urine soaked bandages" and "desperate to cut a diamond tether" are my favorites. Such powerful description that communicates so loudly, yet directly and exactly. But the very best part is "time to let go, rose." I hope that's a reference to Titanic, because that's what it immediately made me think of. We all remember that scene; ah! the heartache. Excellent use of allusion there, it's super effective! Love it.
